I have a problem. I'm in my first year here at the University of Toronto and I'm struggling.

Not with the workload - I mean it's tough but it's nothing I can't handle without some Snow Patrol and late-night trips to the Tim's down the road. I do have a problem though, and it's something I believe all U of T students have to wrestle too.

There are simply too many things to do.

Let me rephrase that: there are too many things I could do.

As the new digital correspondent for ABC News in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Lila (BA 2002 University College) is responsible for diving in when news breaks in one of the most tumultuous parts of the world.

“I thrive on it,” Lila says. “I want to be the person on the scene; I want to be that guy who gets the call at 2 a.m. It’s an honour.”

Order of Canada honours U of T faculty, alumni

Three University of Toronto faculty members, nine alumni and two additional U of T benefactors have been honoured with  year-end Order of Canada appointments.

Fourteen of the 66 Canadians named to receive one of Canada’s highest civilian honours have ties to the university.  The three levels of the order – companion, officer and member -- were established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.

Heritage plaque honours Ontario's first gay and lesbian rights group

The University of Toronto Homophile Association, the province’s first group to rally around lesbian and gay rights, was honoured yesterday at a ceremony that marked their historic formation in 1969.

Officials from U of T, the Ontario Heritage Trust (OHT) and three levels of government commemorated the historic group’s formation by unveiling a provincial plaque at University College – the site of the U of T Homophile Association’s first meeting 42 years ago.
