English language scholar honoured at convocation

Eric Gerald Stanley, Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor Emeritus of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford is renowned as one of the leading scholarly figures in the field of English language and literature. The University of Toronto awarded him an honorary doctor of laws degree June 17 for his exceptional scholarly contributions to the field of English language and literature, including his longstanding collaboration with colleagues at the University of Toronto.

Neil Sterritt is a member of the Gitksan Nation and president of Sterritt Consulting Ltd. and an expert in aboriginal and indigenous issues who has consulted extensively both in Canada and overseas. U of T awarded him an honorary degree June 11 in recognition of his lifetime contributions to the understanding and expression of aboriginal citizenship in Canada.

Professor emeritus awarded honorary degree

Psychiatrist Vivian Rakoff, a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, received an honorary doctor of science degree at the June 11 convocation. Rakoff, the former chair of U of T's Department of Psychiatry and former director and psychiatrist-in-chief at Toronto's Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, was honoured for his contributions to the field of psychiatry and his work in establishing U of T as a leader in the study of brain disease.
